I’m done.
I finished it.
I feel like I’ve left a part of me behind. Like I’ve been brutally evicted from the world I was living in.
And as a last guise to let go (I think the kids call it closure), I want to do a personal character breakdown on all the main characters.
If you’re new, hi, welcome, have a snack, some love and please subscribe. Also I’m talking about Big Time Rush, if you were a little lost.
Kendall Knight
Kendall is your typical spunky teenager. He questions the status quo. He is the definition of stick-it-to-the-man. The bona-fide pep talk man, even the show and the boys poke fun at it. If you need morale, walk up to Kendall and all the hype needed, he gives it to you.
He is fiercely loyal, all of them are. It was what I admired most about their friendship. He never gave up in fighting for his guys and bringing them back to their senses anytime they were either down or silly. If the boys are fighting, he tries to settle it. If anyone is heartbroken, trust him to be there offering advice, consolation, anything they needed to feel better.
His self-confidence is off the charts. The boys in the first season were always trying to get girls and with each one, each boy picked an alter ego except him. It’s how he got Jo and Lucy to like him. He was the epitome of just be yourself. But in all his self-confidence, he was realistic.
I would argue that he was Big Time Rush’s biggest fan. He believed in them more than anyone else. Even when Griffin wanted them to split up after their third album, he was the main person running around trying to make them not get caught up in their solo dreams. And in the final episode, the man really says his dream for Big Time Rush to make it big
Now you would think with all this maturity, he would act like it but no, the brother is as silly as they come. With his brilliance he has a lot of room for mischief as he’s the mastermind behind most of their ridiculous plans.
I can’t say much about his decision making because he picked Jo over Lucy and I haven’t forgiven him for that.
Carlos Garcia
This is my pookie. My dreamer.
Carlos is the resident daredevil of the group. With that his stupid helmet he taps twice. They set him up as the slow one of the group. Kinda like the silly one.
He’s the originator of half the stupid schemes the boys go along with. He says what he wants, and they make it work for him. He’s legit their babygirl.
And as their babygirl, he is really nice. A good boy through and through. The kind that has you wondering how he doesn’t have a girlfriend and then you remember he’s a boy.
Kendall and James have both tried to get him dates. In the first, he mostly pushes girls away by being too honest. He doesn’t realize girls won’t be impressed by him farting the alphabet. In the second, the date he plans is to a local fast-food restaurant instead of a high-end place, and he plans to wear shorts and a t-shirt until James makes him change.
Carlos spent most of the show pining over the Jennifers and the fact he ended up dating all of them at some point was so cute.
He is also quite stubborn but has this energy that just makes him really endearing despite his stubbornness. I can’t think of a single moment where he truly upset me.
Bottomline, Carlos had very contagious silliness depending on who was teamed up with him. Anyone he was with lost some IQ points and I think that’s a sign of true friendship
Logan Mitchell
Logan is the smart one, the numbers guy who doesn’t have much of a backbone initially but lives by ‘if my friends are doing it, why the fuck not?’ He knows it’s silly, but he still does it.
He’s also sweet and the most considerate of the group because tell me why they were kids and made a prank war rulebook and most of the safer and tamer amendments were made by him. You know it wasn’t for him because he legits pranks himself every year without fail.
It makes you understand how he had never asked a girl out before Camille, girls always asked him out first. And Camille being the first girl he really wanted was clearly confusing to him. He probably hadn’t felt feelings so strong, leading to the on-again off-again nature of their relationship at first.
More on Logan’s kindness, multiple times, the boy did something he didn’t have to. Like in big time contest where the contest winner had him doing her chores and he just delt with it.
Logan had more scenes with Carlos and James than Kendall so half the time his IQ is down cause they’re scheming together but the few scenes he had with Kendall, you could tell they were a powerhouse together.
James Diamond
The shallow one, the pretty one.
Right off the bat we see that James cared about his face so much that the rest started caring by extension. He was the one that wanted to be a superstar, with Kendall wanting to be a hockey player, Logan, a doctor and Carlos just wanted to save people.
James is made out to be self-centered and self-involved (which he is, don’t get me wrong) but when you look beneath the surface, you begin to see how much he actually cared.
Like the episode where he helped Katie to get a date and was being the overprotective older brother. Or in the episode where he was taking a best friend test with Kendall and scored higher because he knew a lot more about Kendall than Kendall knew of him.
James is also quite silly ngl, I mean half the time he’s with Carlos and the shenanigans they get up to together?
James also knows how to treat a lady, but probably has commitment issues, because you never see him with just one girl. He has no issues asking them out or finding dates but keeping them is an entirely different matter altogether. Maybe he didn’t feel as deeply.
Maybe because they were easy to charm it didn’t feel like a challenge for him, because I would argue that the reason he fell for Lucy more deeply than the rest is because for the first time, he had to work for it.
And WORK HE DID.
He knew her interests, likes and dislikes, listened closely to her album to gain more insight about her and used them as inspiration on how to woo her.
For the first time, you note how consistent James could be and it was sweet when they ended up together in the last episode.
Note: I found out that the main reason Jo left was to go on tour and why Kendall didn’t end up with Lucy was because she had another activity and couldn’t be on set
Katie Knight
The resident little sister.
She was my favorite character. I would argue the smartest person in the whole show despite also being the youngest.
Like Kendall, she has a brilliant mind but hers is mostly utilized in outsmarting people and figuring out ways to be a Wall Street icon. Whether it’s scamming or betting, as long as she could make money, she was there.
But the thing I noticed immediately about her was the fact that she was genuinely helpful. Carlos has to hide a cricket? she has dropped her plans for the day to help out. Kendall needs something, she’s there offering both solutions and peptalks. Mr. Bitters wants to lie to his mom? she’ll play his son and aid in the lie.
The amount of lies she thought up on the spot for the boys.
She wasn’t a very girly girl which is why she had trouble finding female friends, befriending Buhhda Bob and sometimes Mr. Bitters. But due to her being helpful, almost the entire Palmwoods would come and help her is she needed it.
Camille Roberts
Nicknamed the friendliest person in the palm woods and that wasn’t a lie
She was the first friend the boys made when they landed in the Palmwoods. The first friend Jo made, the first friend Lucy made. Honestly, I think she’s the first friend anyone made once they land in the Palmwoods.
She was always down to help the boys with multiple of their schemes at the drop of a hat. She doesn’t know the lore, has no connection to the issue, but she will put all her acting skills into it.
And boy was she a good actress. I wonder how she didn’t get more roles. Maybe because she was a method actress and occasionally took the methods too far.
But honestly, we saw her grow up into herself. She was still her but older and a bit more mature. And this shows in her relationship with Logan.
Camille isn’t afraid to put it all on the table, and we see it when she lays out her heart for logan and he was using it to play table tennis. They had this on again off again thing in season two but when they decide to get together for real, she tells him that she can’t be dealing with his inconsistency and that if she’s in it, she’s in it.
And it works, her and Logan don’t break up again till the end of show.
Lucy Stone
My girl was the right kind of energy the boys needed.
Immediately she came in, despite her bad girl energy, she matched the boys’ silliness for silliness, most of the time beating them at their own game.
‘No talky to girl’, or the time she called dibs on Kendall, all showed that she rolled with the shenanigans of the boys which was such a contradiction to how she was introduced to the show
Unlike Katie and Camille, she wasn’t aways down with their schemes but ended up caught up within them anyway.
She was the scary outspoken one, after having run away from home and lied to her parents about why she was really in Hollywood. Small wonder she met her match in Kendall, the one person that always met her headfirst.
They always matched each other’s energy, both in snark and strong will. It was truly a misfortune that we never got to see the power couple they could have been.
Gustavo Rocque and Kelly Wainwright
Whilst they started as evil producer and his nice assistant, by the end of the first season you can tell that Gustavo had a soft spot for the boys, a fact that Kelly never stopped reminding him.
These two were a comedic duo on their own with Gustavo having a fiery temper and Kelly being the extinguisher.
But in relation to the boys, Kelly first started as the responsible figure who handled their schedules but by the end, she was like the big sister to the boys who sometimes joined them in the schemes but also sometimes made them stop scheming.
Her, Gustavo and the boys often teamed up together against Griffin and his absurdities.
They treated Katie and Mrs. Knight like family, and it was a beautiful relationship to see.
Now while watching the show, I noted that most of their songs were in their released albums (nickelodeon please release blow your speakers out on Spotify) so I’m gonna rank my top five favorite (like I was jamming this on the road)
Boyfriend
Halfway There
Blow your speakers out (unreleased)
Superstar
Any type of guy (the vocals)
Okay, writing this was actually helpful. I’ve said my goodbye to the show. Time to binge watch Abbot Elementary or ANT Farm or something else, I haven’t decided yet (started A.N.T Farm. God, Chyna and co were so young).
