May women decenter men in the near future in Jesus name

I don’t know if y’all are active on tiktok, specifically booktok but something has been brewing there for a hot minute.

I’m sure most people who write here hope to do something with their writing, maybe get published or magazine or journalism so I know you’ll be as livid as I am when you hear this news.

I came across it with a booktoker with about 7k followers posted about it. This guy, Luke Bateman, Australian, joined booktok April 22nd, saying he reads fantasy and instantly gains about 100k followers over night.

This creator was rightfully bitter cause she had been posting for about a year, had a few viral moments but never that flock of following. She mentioned that while she was upset, she hated the fact that it was women supporting these bare minimum men and not supporting other women as this flock following happens whenever an attractive man joins booktok.

Like legit, men have held a book and used booktok to earn money. Legit be hot and hold a book and some women are falling over themselves in the comment section.

While I did understand where she was coming from, I didn’t think much of it. He was just a lucky guy. Goodluck on his booktok journey.

Now as at yesterday, while getting ready for work, I came across a video. This lady was complaining about the same guy. Intrigued, I paused to see what she had to say.

This man had been offered a TWO BOOK DEAL, with Atria Books and Simon Schuster Publishers with *checks notes* concepts of a book.

LEGIT THIS MAN HAD AN IDEA, POSTED ABOUT IT AND A TWO BOOK PUBLISHING DEAL LANDED IN HIS LAP.

I waited three and a half years, white man did it in one month, cause wtaf.

I watched her complain and I was upset cause I had seen so many tale of struggling writers. In the comment section people were talking about their experiences.

Being queried for three, four, five years.

Lobbying one manuscript from agent to agent, publisher to publisher.

Having manuscripts being declined, over and over again.

And this man made a publishing deal with CONCEPTS OF A BOOK, not a word written, about a month after he posted his first video.

I can’t be mad at him honestly, get that bag. I’m mad at the publishers. And the women throwing themselves at him in his comment section. Y’all saw a man say he reads only fantasy and you’re recommending dark romance to him.

I’m honestly happy I never saw the guy or that side of tiktok until the complaint videos started cause I literally did not place that brick.

I hate all the “Booktok has been summoned” comments under posts of men that are either riding a bike, holding a book, has tattoos or even conventionally attractive cause half the time these men are exploiting the community and y’all give it to them

They are the ones that give booktok a bad name. So much so that I can’t say booktok outside cause they’re so popular and so thirsty that they have disgraced an entire community.

Coming out from Mr Luke’s issue, do you know there was once a biker who was a minor that posted, and all these middle aged booktok women went and started sexualizing the poor boy.

Anyway, I want to pray for Mr Bateman’s luck. May I be offered a book deal, I already have concepts of a book (though I already know people of color have a harder time getting published than white people)
