Must we use African Time?
NYSC Chronicles Day 0.5
Dear Substack and all the people who listen to me yap.
I’ve had an interesting day. And it's just 9am.
As plug pass plug, I landed in Ekiti for my NYSC. The news devastated me but trust, it devastated my mother more (I will end up in Lagos laslas. all this Ekiti talk is just obstacle)
Now I used the entirety of yesterday to get ready. Call me Billy Thunderman the way I was everywhere yesterday. Did hair, got my white, went provision shopping, took passport, went to visit a friend that's leaving the country today (chai, life no balance. I dey go Ekiti, he dey go US), still did nanny and picked up my brother from school, did homework with the boy sef.
I was knocked out by the end of the day. And I hadn't even packed yet.
So I woke up by 3am, started packing and arranging my room (I only forgot a journal, Glory be to God).
We have established I'm quite bad at planning, so the fact that my plan was to get a bus at the bus park shouldn't surprise anyone. Me and a few people from my school made a plan to go together. We picked a time to get to the park. 6am
I got there 7am. I was the first one there.
I hate being a group leader cause it activates my need for absolute control. I called and texted. Nobody was responding until about 7.15am when the first person showed up (we were about 10 planning this movement)
I got a bus, started begging the driver to wait. As slowly as a snail's movement, everyone started to show up. By 8.15am everyone was present.
I was frustrated. I had called more times in one hour than I have the entirety of this year.
Next came payment. Apparently, you pay for luggage too. Did y’all know that? Cause I didn't. Wasn't a fun discovery but I made it work.
Next came the bus itself. While I thought the luggage would be inside the bus, the luggage was being tied to the bus, so the driver waited until he got enough people to fill the bus before he started tying (because only 7 out of 10 people made it to the park)
FINALLY, by 9am, we made it out. We started to leave the park. There had been arguments, yelling, me rejecting more hawkers than the total number of men I've been attracted to. But we made it out.
Now I'm typing on my phone, while the driver is driving like a maniac on steriods, honking at every car. Like sir, please this isn't fast and furious.
Wish me luck!!😕
Also expect a newsletter on Song Scenarios by 12pm. When it drops, I'll link it here.
This is the first newsletter from my phone, since I can't take my laptop to camp. It was weird to edit but hey, at least I can use emojis now.
I’m not sure I'll post a lot from camp sha, but we’ll see. I’ll keep y’all updated.

I found out you pay for luggage surprisingly too. My mind was absolutely blown😭
Anyways, you live, you learn
NYSC go whine you but no panic 🤣🤣🤣😂
