TOP SIX BOOK AUTHORS

These are authors that I basically read their entire catalogue this year and I know for a fact if they say they have a new book, I’m sat like a kid promised Ice Cream)

NO 6: RINA KENT

Y’all saw me say I read thirty-three books by this woman right? It was like nicotine. I couldn’t stop. And like nicotine, I can’t encourage you to read her either.

Her writing is good, in a she-makes-hot-redflag-men way. Her fmcs (female main characters) are always some timid quiet girl who is taking the absolute abject trash from their man then he ends up grovelling in some way.

I did eat it up though, every time. They are rich white people who lead capitalism, what do I care.

Rina found her niche such a funny way because her books are the exact same but leaves you with a warm feeling because of the strength of the love these characters end up having for each other. The men are possessive to the T and would kill for their women (dark romance, duh)

She’s my ‘Hear me out’ author and I will unfortunately be reading whatever she writes no matter the criticism I see. A girl needs a book to turn off her brain to and Rina Kent is exactly that to me.

If I were to recommend any book it would be Deception trilogy, Monster Trilogy and God of Fury.

Also if you’re a hardcore feminist bordering on misandrist, please in the name of God don’t read her books. You would hate men even more.

NO 5: LIZ TOMFORDE

I didn’t even hear of this woman till a screenshot of Stevie (Ryan’s sister) and Indy from Right Move, hit my TikTok and I went to check it out.

She writes sports romance in a way that has you wishing you were the girlfriend of a famous athlete. Her men are such green flag, if-he-wanted-to-he-would and its the most swoon worthy thing ever.

Then she went ahead to give me a single father, baseball player who loves his kid so much and is actually very active in his child’s life? Give me fourteen of them right now.

And her women, ughhhhhh. They’re soo good. Strong fully fleshed out women who aren’t just there for the plot. They have their lives, their opinions and frankly I do be rooting for them to find the love that’s looking at them.

Anywho, she (Liz, that is) joined my list of auto-read authors. Just announce it and I’m there.

NO 4: HOLLY BLACK

Favourite fantasy author check. A fantasy author that doesn’t make her MMC five hundred years old and FMC eighteen years check.

I first read a Holly book in like my fantasy era in 2021 and when I say I was blown away. If you want to read political fantasy, if you want to read about a human girl who literally overthrew the fae government, then Cruel Prince Trilogy is your book.

I had not ranked her as top but she was getting there, then I read her sequel series. Equally as good.

The world building, the magic system, the writing. All superb. All with romance as a subplot.

NO 3: ANN LIANG

I kept seeing this academic enemies to lovers book on Instagram and the snippets were snipping. It finally gets released and this book has the most finger licking angst known to mankind.

And it’s YA so you know the most sexual thing they’ll do is to make out. I finished that book, and wanted more so I read all her other books. They didn’t disappoint.

So if you’re looking for a cutesy romance between like eighteen year olds that are Asian. Go for Ann Liang.

Before I continue, this is an emotionally biased list. These authors are here because I love the feeling I get in my chest when I read their books. I like that most make me believe in real love and takes me away from the reality of men.

NO 2: HOLLY JACKSON

Yes, another Holly.

If there was one person I wish I could steal her brain, it would be this woman right here (watch me say this about someone else in the near future).

I’m very sure most if not all of you, have heard of a Good Girls’ Guide to Murder. Well, this is its author. I was mindblown thrown away when I read the third book in 2021 (I did a lot of good reading in 2021).

That series is the type that has you sitting down looking at the ripple effect that got the FMC, who is a goody-two-shoes, to the point of committing murder and GETTING AWAY WITH IT at age eighteen from simply wanting to solve a cold case.

This year, I found out Ms Holly had other works and when I say I RAN.

Five Survive is a mystery book that occurs in a bus over the span of a night, The plot twisted, curled and rewound. And you feel every single emotion Holly wanted you to feel. And the ending? I don’t think I have ever felt such thrill from the ending of a book in my life.

And that’s just how she writes. Like Madam, teach me how to tug heartstrings.

NO 1: LYNN PAINTER

Dare I say my favourite romcom writer.

If you want to read of love in its purest form, pick up Lynn Painter.

If you love ‘Clueless’ and ‘Ten Things I Hate About You’ and want to read something like that, pick up Lynn Painter.

If you want a seriously down-bad, pining man who is such a green-flag, pick up Lynn Painter.

If you love books that with such an adorable love confession. pick up Lynn Painter.

I had read only Better Than The Movies (which I have read about five times now), and I heard there were bonus chapters. In sourcing the bonus chapters, I discovered more books of hers and I read all of them.

Like if you really want just a high school type, falling in love romcom, Lynn Painter is your girl.
