I have a bit of a differing opinion. As someone who started dark romance as sa kid (I used to hide under a blanket with my mom's book and a flashlight, maybe that's why my eyesight is so bad 🥲) I can admit it gets to your brain.
I started to internalize it, in a way. I recently saw a book recommendation (Yes, I get recs from booktok) where the mc grabbed fmc by the throat and dangled her over a ledge. A year ago I would've thought that was normal.
And don't even get me started on the number of books I've read where the mc SA's the fmc. And they still end up falling in love, like wtf. I've taken a hiatus from those books. I need it for my sanity.
I'm not shaming dark romance. I'm just saying kids are on this spaces, as well as people who don't really get it, so maybe we shouldn't make it mainstream like I have noticed its becoming.
I understand you're not shaming them. I'm saying I understand where the hate is coming from, and it's not necessarily the kink thing. A lot of the hate I've seen on it is about the SA thing, or the obsession with underage fmcs. And I totally agree we shouldn't make it mainstream.
No it wasn't God of malice.
I think it was Enigma or something. Rec was by Jade on TT if you wanna check it out.
genuinely don’t even think there should be shame about it. secrecy sure but only because people don’t seem to be able to stomach what they can’t understand. i've always thought it was insane to shame a kink simply because you weren't into it. insane behaviour, except for the toe people of course. those ones are always weird.😂 - for my fellow spectrum connoisseurs that last bit was a joke. no offense to the toe people. (pls don't hurt me)
you do know that they will find you. they are always watching 🙃
jokes aside though, i get that i think. it's not for everyone. you share it with the people that get it so that it isn't tainted by the people who don't.
Agreed there’s a place for discretion but I think saying shame is a bit odd in the sense that people are already shamed for it as well I don’t think a lot of things should be ‘mainstream’ tbh especially when created from and by people who have felt ‘othered’ like fanfiction cause a lot of people that are into only mainstream culture don’t know what niche culture Etiquette and never want to learn lowkey feels similar to culture appropriation of always thinking how can this culture benefit me or profit and make views for me
Honestly true. But in mainstream marketing, everyone just tags words that yet the book the most fame and market it that way. They don't care you're getting catfished, they just want you to buy the book
Loved this, but I have a differing opinion. I understand what you mean about discretion, but a lot of people are still finding it difficult to even own their kinks. While some are unapologetic about their kinks— it doesn't necessarily mean they lack shame(which shouldn't even be a thing). Someone being uncomfortable about your kink isn't your responsibility to change. Yes, not everything needs to be said on the internet — but talking about your kinks online doesn't change or affect anything. Anyone who's uncomfortable with being faced by someone else's kinks should probably not read that book or post or watch that video. There's a choice for everyone.

Over the ledge, sounds familiar. God of malice?

Ohh, okay, okay. I get what you're saying

Not shame in the ashamed of it but at least have some discretion while saying it outside
The toe people are hated cause majority of them are creepy
you do know that they will find you. they are always watching 🙃

Exactlyyyyyy

I think I should have made myself clearer cause a lot of people have issues with the word shame
Maybe I shouldn't have used it. But I don't mean they should be ashamed or shamed for it.
Just please keep niche culture niche
Excatlyyy
I think it's unreasonable to read a book based on a genre and then complain about the genre the book is based on, it makes no sense.
(I hope that made sense)
You can't be reading smut and be complaining about all the sex in the book 🤦🏾♂️, go read a nursery rhyme or something then.

I know books that are political fantasy that are marketed as romantic fantasy
Oh, now I can see why readers would be pissed
You go in expecting A and see 15

I actually get this.
My mind couldn't comprehend most of this. What's "choking"? Is it a biscuit brand?
I've given up on you😭
Please noo😭
The list part is crazyyyyy😂
the fact that the author went through all the trouble of them having kink lists and later ignored the entire list, pissed me off
Almost sounds like you were looking forward to the list🤭
I WAS😩😩😩😩
Maybe it was to avoid criticism or develop a plot twist or sth🤷🏾♂️
No for plot twist, maybe for criticism
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You posted 🤭
Omo, even me sef, I'm saying finally.
